Notes on using MedianQuartiles.xls

This worksheet uses highlighting to show the Median and Quartiles of a simple dataset.

The principle used is that the lower quartile is the median of the bottom half of the data and the upper quartile is the median of the upper half (with the middle value ignored when there are an odd number of values).

A boxplot of the results is displayed.

I use this to help me explain the method of finding the Median and Quartiles and to generate quick questions for the class to answer.
