Notes on using StandardDeviation.xls

This is a simple spreadsheet layout of the calculations for standard deviation with a reminder of the formulae.

As you can see from the worksheet itself it uses the new (at least to A level) definition of standard deviation as opposed to the old one which is now defined as rmsd (root mean squared deviation).

At the bottom the values of a and b can be changed to apply a transformation ax + b to the data and observe the effects on the outcomes.
